Readers sound off in Letters to the Editor,
To the Editor:
It appears the Terra Vi public hearing date has now been manipulated by a sneaky appeal to speed up the process before the new Board of Supervisors are sworn in. The future of our community is at stake, and the county is concerned with rushing through the process. What is actually going on? Is the appellant, Clare Cosovich, fiancée of Nick Manly, really concerned about the lack of water at the project site?
Water is something that the community has repeatedly discussed as a major issue in comment letters and public hearings. There is no public water system on the property and unreliable wells are the only water source. Two huge commercial projects threaten to dry up neighboring private wells, especially in drought years. There is no emergency water storage, no sprinklers, no fire hydrants. There is no sewer or electricity. This is rural forest land, remotely located and devoid of existing public services without nearby fire protection, ambulance or law enforcement services. The community has raised these points many times, but the appellant Ms. Cosovich has never commented previously. Why now?
Let's respect the constituents of Tuolumne County and slow down the process. Let's take the time to carefully review and study the significant impacts associated with the proposed projects. Let's defer the project until the new board members are seated. The new board should be given the opportunity to determine that the project's impacts have been fully disclosed and mitigated.
