Shame on you, Tom Mcclintock

-

To the Editor:

By signing the amicus brief with 125 of your congressional colleagues and 17 Republican attorneys general, you have shown your true colors — that power is more important than integrity. To attempt to discard the votes of 22 million Americans in four states on a false narrative of a fraudulent election is an affront to our intelligence and the facts on the ground, in addition to being disloyal to the Constitution you swore a sacred oath to defend and protect. Since you question whether this election was fair and free, was your own election fraudulent?

Your lack of support for COVID economic relief and your attempt to roll back health insurance protections are shocking at a time when a pandemic is killing your constituents and damaging our economy. Your lack of support to expand rural broadband in prior years hurts us today when remote school and work have become more necessary than ever. All this is “penny wise and pound foolish.”

In this time of unprecedented challenge, it is time that you began listening to your constituents and representing your district — all of us — and put aside your petty partisanship to work for solutions that help our district and our country. For over 200 years, the United States has prided itself in free and fair elections and peaceful and civil transition of power. Your attempt to undermine this election and the choice of over 81 million voters is shameful. It is a dark stain on your reputation and on our democracy. Lawrence Marum, MD
