Actions speak louder than words
To the Editor:
President Biden is emphasizing a message of unity. I wish they really wanted a unified country. While preaching this message, their actions expose what they want is conformity. Analyze the recent vote by the House. Impeaching a president is a highly serious action by Congress. Yet, the House rushed through without any fact finding, limited deliberation and a quick vote. Their actions demeaned this serious process. They set a dangerous precedent to punish a president for policies and actions rather than high crimes and misdemeanors.
Waiting even a few days, they would have discovered that the storming of the Capitol was planned by extremists before Jan 6. Those who marched on the capital headed there 20 minutes before Trump began his speech. Speaking, Trump stated that he knew they were going to march on the Capitol “peacefully and patriotically.” Does this sound like inciting an insurrection?
If the Democrats wanted unity, they would drop this charade. This summer, large numbers of Democrats vocally supported the riots, autonomous zones, and damage to property. They did this with no consideration to the businesses they destroyed or the citizens whose lives were dramatically affected. Why is that not inciting an insurrection, and why were they not impeached?
As one who voted for Trump, I have been called deplorable, irredeemable, a white supremacist and a racist. Nancy Pelosi said I put my “whiteness before democracy.” I am strongly offended by those statements. Democrats stated they needed to “deprogram and reeducate” Trump supporters. That is not unifying speech. If they want unity, they need to begin the conversation — how to compromise. Biden's signing of executive orders in his first day is a strong signal of “do it my way” rather than working across the aisle to compromise. Their actions need to support their speech!
