Tuolumne County students recognized by Every Student Succeeds program,
Nineteen Tuolumne County youngsters have been recognized by the Every Student Succeeds program, and nine of them have received $1,000 scholarships, thanks to the Sonora Area Foundation and donor Dan Imfeld, staff with the Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools announced Wednesday.
The program is intended “to recognize students who demonstrate perseverance, resilience, and positive attitudes to be successful in school,” Diana Harford, assistant superintendent for educational services with the Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools, said Wednesday in a phone interview.
Each year in February, Harford said, the Tuolumne Charter of the Association of California School Administrators hosts a breakfast for students and their families who have been selected by each school in Tuolumne County to be recognized as the school nominee for the Every Student Succeeds program.
This year, in place of a breakfast event, each school recognized students individually at their own district, Harford said. Each student received a certificate. Students who were not seniors were awarded $20 gift cards to a local business or businesses.
Each graduating senior who was nominated received a $1,000 scholarship toward his or her post-high school education.
