Tuolumne County confirms 2 additional COVID-19 deaths,

Two women who died in February and early March were added to tuolumne County’s coronaviru­s death toll ontuesday.

The women were both reportedly in their 80s.

“Our condolence­s go out to the families and friends of these individual­s,” the county Public Health Department said in its daily COVID-19 update ontuesday.

Their deaths brought the total number of tuolumne County residents who have died from the virus since the pandemic began early last year to 64.

The department also reported four new community cases ontuesday, which were identified as a woman in her 40s, two men in their 50s, and a man in his 70s.

One person in the county also remained hospitaliz­ed for the virus as of tuesday.

Tuolumne County’s daily case rate per 100,000 people ontuesday also declined to 2.5 from 3.3 the previous week, while the testing positivity rate declined to 1.2% from 1.6% over the same period.

The county remained in the orange tier, though the state was planning to change the metrics for the least restrictiv­e yellow tier that could help the county move into it earlier.

Calaveras County’s daily case rate, meanwhile, actually increased to 7.1 per 100,000 people from 6.5 the previous week.the testing positive rate also increased to 4.1% from 3% over the same period.

The county remained in the red tier and had six new cases ontuesday and one person hospitaliz­ed for COVID-19, though its total deaths remained at 51.

When you should get tested: Five days after travel or close contact with others outside of your household; as soon as possible if experienci­ng symptoms; and/or every 14 to 28 days if regularly working with the public.
