House fire displaces 4 people,
Four residents of a home escaped uninjured and were displaced when fire gutted the structure on Peppermint Circle off Rawhide Road north of Jamestown, Tuolumne County Fire Department staff said in a social media post early Sunday.
The fire occurred between midnight and 1 a.m. Sunday in Peppermint Creek Mobile Home Park. About 15 to 20 neighbors were up and running to the scene of the fire, a resident said in a phone interview Monday.
Multiple engine crews responded to the blaze, which broke out in the 10000 block of Peppermint Circle. The first firefighters arrived within six minutes of dispatch and found the residence fully involved in flames, Tuolumne County Fire Department staff said.
All four occupants of the home were outside unharmed when firefighters arrived.
Firefighters turned floodlights on the burning home and the immediate area around it so that crews could better see what they were doing. Flames from the fire and the bright floodlights lit up the fire scene in the otherwise pitch dark nighttime.
Four to five dogs escaped from the burning home and all were accounted for except for one, a white dog named Pearl.
Crews with Tuolumne County Fire, Cal Fire’s Tuolumne-calaveras Unit, and Sonora Fire responded. Firefighters stayed on scene early Sunday putting out hot spots and investigating the cause of the fire.
The American Red Cross responded to help the displaced people. No injuries were reported.
“We provided assistance for them and gave them resources,” Debbie Calcote with the American Red Cross, based in Sonora and San Andreas, said Monday afternoon in a phone interview. “A caseworker will recontact them within 24 to 48 hours to see what their plans are. The initial disaster reaction team response happened Sunday. A caseworker will do further outreach and find out what their further needs are.”
