Tuolumne County confirms 4 new cases, Calaveras County has 3

There were four new COVID-19 cases counted in Tuolumne County and three in Calaveras County on Wednesday.

The new cases in Tuolumne County were identified as a boy younger than 18; a man between 18 and 29; a woman in her 40s; and a man in his 70s.

Neither county had any residents who were hospitaliz­ed for the virus.

On Wednesday, the Calaveras Public Health Division announced it’s also following the recommenda­tion of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Food and Drug Administra­tion to pause the use of Johnson & Johnson vaccines until the FDA and CDC can complete their review.

Thetuolumn­e County Public Health Department made the same announceme­nt ontuesday.

Six cases of a rare, severe type of blood clot have been reported in women who have received the singledose Johnson & Johnson vaccine for COVID-19, also known as the Janssen vaccine, the CDC and FDA said in a joint statement on Tuesday.

All six cases of the condition, called central venous sinus thrombosis, were found in women between 18 and 48 years old.the cases have emerged from 7.5 million people who have received the same vaccine as of Wednesday. Symptoms occurred six to 13 days after vaccinatio­n, the CDC and FDA said in their announceme­nt.

About 1 million women ages 18 to 48 have received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, authoritie­s said.

As of Wednesday morning, 413 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine had been administer­ed in Tuolumne County. Of those, 51 vaccinatio­ns were administer­ed to women aged 18 to 48, said Dore Bietz, the county Office of Emergency Services coordinato­r.

Bietz said Wednesday afternoon the county was not aware of anyone intuolumne County complainin­g about side effects or serious reactions to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
