Vote, vote, vote

-

To the Editor:

The special election to recall Gov. Gavin Newsom is on Sept. 14 — that is coming very soon. The ballots are in the mail, and the drop boxes have been placed and are ready to receive ballots. It is imperative that each one of us votes in this election and vote early. You can return

your ballot any time before Sept. 14. Now, what to do with that ballot?

The ballot has two parts, and here's what is as stake:

The majority vote on Part 1 will determine the outcome of the recall question. If a majority vote “yes” to the recall question, Part 2 comes into play.

If Part 2 comes into play, our next governor will be determined by a simple plurality vote.

A no vote (no to the recall question) is a vote to keep the status quo with Newsom serving the rest of his term — nothing will change.

A yes vote (yes to the recall question) is a vote to remove Newsom from the office — and then Part 2 comes into play.

The winner in Part 2 with the most votes from the list of 46 candidates (Newsom is not on the list) will be our governor for the remainder of the term.

Therefore, it is imperative to vote on both parts of the ballot, no matter which way you vote on the recall question. Part 2 may be decided by just a few voters.
