Dolly Estelle Hatler

1930 — 2021

-

Dolly Estelle Hatler passed quietly from this life on Thursday morning, July 29, at the age of 91, while recovering at the hospital. Her youngest son, Evan, was by her side.

Born Dolly Estelle Richards on the Jan. 3, 1930, in Lodi, San Joaquin County, California, the daughter of Dollie Ellen West and Thomas James Richards, she grew up in the California Gold Country attending school in Mokelumne Hill and later Sonora Union High School. She was married for 66 years to Vernon Phillip Hatler, eldest son of the large local Hatler family, who preceded her in death in 2014. Theirs was a life of family, hard work and caring for others. A humble woman whose strength and compassion touched all she came in contact with, because caring and serving others was the way she lived her life. She never thought of herself as anyone who had anything special to offer, but her generous loving heart made her dear to all who came into her orbit. She became “Grandma Dolly” to so many more than actual relatives.

Dolly was preceded in death by her husband, V. Phillip Hatler, and her siblings, Bertha Ellen Shields Lund and Elmer Lee Peterson. She is survived by siblings Bobbie O Peterson and Margaret Isabelle Wilkie Ritter; her three sons, Phillip Vernon Hatler, of Alabama, Wesley Sidney Hatler, and Evan James Hatler, of Sonora and Coulterville, respectively. Also, seven grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren, numerous extended family and many, many dear friends who will miss her and remember her caring influence on their lives.
