Tuolumne, Calaveras together log 61 new COVID cases

Tuolumne County added 44 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, while Calaveras County added 17 new cases.

Eight of the new cases in Tuolumne County were vaccinated — six Moderna and two Johnson & Johnson. Calaveras County does not disclose vaccinatio­n status of new cases.

There were 307 active cases in Tuolumne County on Wednesday, with 14 Covid-positive individual­s hospitaliz­ed.

Tuolumne County’s case rate Wednesday was 55.9 per 100,000 population, just below Tuesday’s new record high of 56.1 cases per 100,000.

The case rate for vaccinated individual­s in Tuolumne County was 16.5, while unvaccinat­ed individual­s had a case rate of 83.6.

Being fully vaccinated continues to significan­tly reduce the risk of illness, hospitaliz­ation, and death due to COVID-19, the Tuolumne County Public Health

Department said Wednesday.

New cases in Tuolumne County on Wednesday were identified as four girls and five boys under age 12; three girls between 12 and 17; four women and four men between 18 and 29; three women and seven men in their 30s; one woman and two men in their 40s; four women and three men in their 50s; one man in his 60s; one man in his 70s; a woman in her 80s; and a man above 90 years old.

No COVID-19 deaths were reported in Tuolumne or Calaveras counties on Wednesday.

Tuolumne County added nine new deaths for the week from Aug. 11 through Tuesday, while Calaveras County added three.

Out of the nine deaths in Tuolumne County, one was fully vaccinated — a man in his 80s with underlying health conditions. He was the first and only fully vaccinated county resident to die from the virus out of 82 total deaths since the pandemic began.
