Deborah Susan Flanagan

1942 — 2021

Deborah Susan Flanagan was born on Oct. 23, 1942, in Hollywood, California, to Donald and Freda Henderson. She entered her eternal rest on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2021, in Sacramento, after a brief illness.

Raised in Simi Valley, California, with her two brothers, Scott and Keven, Deborah graduated from Simi Valley High School in 1960. She married her high school sweetheart, Timothy (Tim) Byron Flanagan, on May 9, 1959. Together, they raised four children and fostered one. They relocated to Columbia, where they have resided since 1976.

A bookkeeper by trade, Deborah could be found happiest in her garden or at a flower show with her closest friend, Pat Tofte. She would do anything for her kids. She made sure the kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews all had something to commemorate their special occasion, be it their birth or wedding, through her gift of needlepoint. She also loved to read.

Preceded in death by her parents, and her foster son, Richard Larsen, Deborah leaves behind her husband of 62 years, Tim, of Columbia; son, Tim (Robin), of Elko, Nevada, daughter, Kerry, of Simi Valley, son, Sean (Jenny), of Lincoln, and daughter Colleen (Paul), of Christiansburg, Virginia. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at Christian Heights Church, 13711 Joshua Way, Sonora, CA 95370. Officiants will be Pastor Craig Andrus and Deborah’s son-in-law, Pastor Paul Kuzma. All are welcome to attend. Deborah and her husband, Tim, have been members of Christian Heights Church for well over 40 years.
