Nan D. Hobbs

Nan Hobbs was born into a large family in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, on Nov. 13, 1933. After she married Jay Hobbs in August 1951, Jay and Nan moved to California and settled in Tuolumne County, where they have lived ever since.

Nan was a homemaker and raised three daughters. She loved flowers, especially lilacs, and lilac was her favorite color. She was an accomplish­ed quilt maker, which led her to become a member of the Sierra Quilt Guild for many years. Nan also did lovely embroidery work and enjoyed making sets of embroidere­d dish towels that she gave as gifts. Nan was a 35+ year member of TOPS, making many longtime friends there, and she enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Society

She delighted in her grandchild­ren and greatgrand­children. Nan loved watching baseball and was an enthusiast­ic fan of the San Francisco Giants. She was a loving wife and mother and will be greatly missed.

Nan is survived by her husband of 70 years, Jay Hobbs, of Sonora; her daughters, Cathy Calef (husband Dan), Renee Hobbs and Tracy Marquette ( husband Brian); as well as granddaugh­ter Kelly Marquette MacDonald (husband Shane); and great-grandchild­ren Keelen and Lila. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews and a host of longtime friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings, as well as her granddaugh­ter, Mallory Marquette Saueressig. Donations to honor Nan can be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

She will be interred at Mountain Shadow Cemetery in Sonora.
