Alice Campbell Vantz passed away peacefully in Fredericks­burg, Texas on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at the age of 83. Alice was a beloved wife, an adored mother, grandmothe­r, greatgrand­mother, sister and friend. Alice was born August 1, 1938 at the Mother Lode Hospital now Jamestown

Hotel in Jamestown, California to William “Tex” Campbell and Gladys Swenson Campbell. She grew up in Sonora, where she spent countless hours learning piano and riding her horse “High Pockets”. The summer of 1955 Alice was crowned Mother Lode Fair Queen, afterwards competing in the Maid of California contest in Sacramento. She won awards from the Tuolumne County Junior Chamber of Commerce and Dodge Ridge. Alice graduated Sonora Union High School in 1956.

In 1961 Alice married James (Jim) Hassett in Modesto. They had three children and moved several times with Jim’s job until they landed in Houston, Texas in 1973.

Alice enjoyed being involved in the community. She served as the PTO president and Girl Scout Troop leader in Gallup, New Mexico and as a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority for many years.

Alice’s confidence and beauty benefited her natural ability as a sales person. Alice sold everything from furniture to Cadillacs. She ultimately found her niche as a life insurance agent for Prudential and sold life insurance for many years. Alice had a flare for décor, which she utilized in her career and personal life. She enjoyed sewing, painting and making beaded jewelry that she sold to businesses in the Texas Hill Country. In 1990 Alice married Ronald Vantz in Atwater, California. Alice and Ron enjoyed many travels abroad as well as traveling the country in their RV. Alice’s favorite trip was to her ancestral home in Norway. They enjoyed many years of retirement in their dream home in Fredericks­burg, Texas. Alice is preceded in death by her parents William and Gladys Campbell and her brother-in-law, Billy Marr. Alice is survived by her husband of 31 years, Ronald Vantz, and her children, Michael Hassett of Paso Robles, Leslie (Scott) Waugh of Houston, Texas, and Kristin (John) Hodge of Big Pine Key, Florida, and step children, Jennifer (Mark) Tomlinson of Oakdale, and Steve (Ann) Vantz of Modesto. She is also survived by grandchild­ren, Valerie Paul, Michelle Conley, Brody (Julia) Krafka, Shelby Krafka, Daniel and Alison Hodge, Lauren and Logan Tomlinson, Rylie and Addison Vantz and 8 great grandchild­ren. Also, sisters Marilyn Marr and Phyllis (Larry) Malkin, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Votive Hospice and Knopp Nursing and Rehabilita­tion of Fredericks­burg, Texas for their care.

Memorial service will be held September 18, 2021 at 1:00pm at Carters Cemetery in Tuolumne, California. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Votive Hospice of Fredericks­burg, at 1204 N. Llano St. Fredericks­burg, TX. 78624
