Eluterio ‘Lou’ Manuel Galvan 1981 - 2021

Eluterio Manuel Galvan (Lou Galvan) passed unexpectedly on Monday, Aug. 23.

Eluterio was born on Aug. 20, 1981, in Sacramento to Bonifacio and Carmen Galvan. He was the second born of four children. He moved to Sonora with his family when he was 4 years old, attending Belleview and Twain Harte elementary schools. Lou graduated from Sonora High School with presidential honors. He was well-liked by his friends and teachers.

Lou tied and sold flies at craft fairs when he was 9. He went on to work and help build the family business, Galvan Fly Reels. He started going on the road with his dad and younger brother at age 12, and attended trade shows with his mom and siblings. It was a family affair. He became a sales representative for the business and was loved by everyone in the flyfishing industry.

Lou was an excellent fly fisherman. If you had a chance to be out on the water with Lou, you would know he was a gentle teacher, and his love for the art of flyfishing showed through his skills. Lou loved woodworking, making custom screens and barn doors along with many other beautiful pieces of work he created at his home shop, For the Ages.

Lou always found time for family. He was a caregiver for his grandfather; they were quite the pair. Lou gave everything he did his all with so much love and is known for his big bear hugs and contagious smile. Lou was taken from us too soon. He will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.

Eluterio is survived by his parents, Bonifacio (Boni) and Carmen Galvan, of Sonora; sister Veronica Anderson, and her husband, Alex Anderson; niece Vanessa Anderson; sister Amanita Tapia; niece Ayani Tapia and nephew Pacal Tapia; brother Marcos Galvan, and his wife, Rachelle Galvan; nephew Raymond Galvan and niece Abigail Galvan; and grandfather Manuel Deleon, all of Sonora; grandmother Lilia Galvan, of Dixon; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Beatrice DeLeon, of Sonora; grandfather Eluterio Galvan, of Dixon; great-grandmother, Sofia Pastrana; great-grandfather, Luis Pastrana, of Elko, Nevada; aunt Lilia Felix, of Washington; and his great- grandmother, Pomposa Arellano, of Dixon.
