Charlott e C. Louis, a native of Columbia, California, lately residing in Fallon, Nevada, passed away at Banner Hospital on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021. She was 81.

Charlotte Louis was born to James E. and Jean W. (Wermuth) Poor of Carmel, California.

She grew up in Rawhide, where, when she was 6 years old, her father later built a ranch house on property along the Horseshoe-bend of the Stanislaus River below Table Mountain in Columbia. This was no hobby farm, however; it was a working cattle ranch with chores to do, such as baling hay and wrapping it by hand, moving and penning cattle, and providing veterinary medical care for both cattle and horses.

Charlotte’s interest in helping people surfaced at a young age. After high school, she completed the vocational nursing program at Columbia College, received her license, and worked for the Tuolumne County hospital for several years. She was a trailblaze­r within her family as the first to attend college. Later, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in social work from Stanislaus State University in Turlock. Following graduation, she returned to Tuolumne County Social Services where she specialize­d in child and adult protective services. It was a demanding job, matched by the challenges of being a single parent. Charlotte served her community through the county’s Social Services Department for 28 years, until an unfortunat­e automobile accident abruptly ended her career. Shortly after retiring, she moved to northern Nevada to be closer to her daughter.

She embraced life in her adopted home of Fallon, Nevada, participat­ing in many civic groups, including the Churchill County Planning Commission, where she served as the vice chairwoman for 17 years. She was especially proud of her 52-year membership in the Order of the
