Frogs will kick-off Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee promotional tour
A group of frogs (and their handlers) will launch a goodwill tour this week to help raise excitement for the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee, which runs May 19-22 at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds in Angels Camp.
The frogs and their handlers will make several appearances throughout Calaveras County, beginning with an appearance at the Angels Camp Museum on Saturday, April 30, where a new exhibit traces the history of the Jumping Frog Jubilee from 1864 to present.
The frogs will be at the museum for a community celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Museum admission is free during the celebration, and free frog jumping will be offered.
The frogs also will appear at the fair Kickoff Dinner on Wednesday, May, 4, then will travel to the California State Capitol in Sacramento for the Capitol Frog Jump, which returns this year after a two year hiatus.

Jump will begin at 11 a.m. and is cosponsored by Sen. Andreas Borgeas, who represents Senate District 8, and Assemblyman Frank Bigelow, who represents Assembly District 50. More than 50 elected officials,staffers and media representatives compete in the jump, the winner of which earns a spot in the Jumping Frog Jubilee Grand Finals on May 22.
Other jumps include the Junior Frog Jump, sponsored by the Angels Camp Business Association. The jump will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at Utica Park in Angels Camp. The Copper Town Center Jump will begin at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, May 15, and the Calaveras County Government Center Jump will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 17.
The Jumping Frogs will also visit 11 schools in the county and will give demonstrations at each stop. For more information about the fair or frog jump, go online to www.frogtown.org.
