Werner Ramsgard

Werner Ramsgard passed away at his home the evening of March 6, 2022. Werner was born Feb. 1, 1922, in Cordova, Alaska, to Alma and John Ramsgard. The family moved to San Francisco, California, when Werner was a small child. Werner attended school in San Francisco and graduated from Lowell High School. His love of tennis developed in his youth. He was known to play tennis at the many courts in and around San Francisco. Werner entered World War II and was stationed in England. At the war’s end he returned to San Francisco and began a career in banking. His position with Bank of America involved traveling, and while in Sonora in 1950 he met and married Lorain “Babe” Davis. They had three children; Susan, John, and Steven. Werner was greatly admired and respected for his love and commitment to his wife and children.

Werner’s banking career continued to advance with him working for several different banks with his eventual promotion to CEO and president of a small banking firm. He moved into the automotive field where he owned and operated Davis Motors in Sonora. In 1982, Werner semi-retired and moved to be close to family in Santa Barbara, California. He enjoyed playing tennis and working in a variety of different positions, eventually owning and operating Day Payroll for a number of years.

Werner’s final years were spent living in Sonora. He resided with his son, Steven. The two of them took pleasure in having family, friends both old and new, stopping by to visit.

Werner is survived by his three children; Dr. Susan Day, John Ramsgard, and Steven Ramsgard, in addition to six grandchild­ren and five greatgrand­children. His ashes will be interred on May 14, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Mountain Shadow Cemetery. There will be a gathering of family and friends later that afternoon.
