Reelect Cathy Parker

To the Editor:

School is almost out, but we have an election coming up that matters for next school year and the years beyond. As a 17-year educator in this county, I wholeheartedly support reelecting Cathy Parker for Superintendent of Schools.

The county superintendent of schools has numerous responsibilities, including overseeing the fiscal accountability of our local school districts, supporting districts in coordinating services and meeting the myriad requirements of education laws, ensuring there are credentialed staff in classrooms, and providing academic and technical support.

Cathy does this and more. Under her leadership, the county schools office has deepened connections with local agencies including behavioral health and the Yes Partnership, and brought in additional support for student mental health through grant writing. Her interest in vocational education and post-graduation opportunities for all students has led to more collaboration with Columbia College. Beyond that, Cathy is someone who has never lost her focus on children. She continues to take a personal interest in students and their families and knows our unique rural communities and culture.

I have personally had the opportunity to work with Cathy in my position, and I know her to be an incredibly dedicated, honest educator who is always thinking of how our work can support all students. She knows that our community depends on a quality education for all our youth.
