Three adults were arrested in connection with two burglaries reported in the Burson area on Sunday, May 15, the Calaveras Sheriff's Office said 10 days after the alleged crimes occurred.

The most recent incident occurred about 6:30 p.m. May 15 in the 11000 block of Navajo Way. Deputies were dispatched to a reported burglary in progress at a residence where there were several suspicious vehicles, the Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

Deputies found Brant Alan Steiger, 45, of Valley Springs, and Andrea Lynn Tate, 38, of Burson, inside the residence and took them into custody. Steiger allegedly had suspected methamphetamine and unspecified drug paraphernalia in his clothes, and Steiger told deputies he was at the residence with the homeowner's permission.

The deputies contacted the homeowner by phone, and the homeowner told the deputies he or she did not know Steiger and Tate, and regardless, the two were not permitted to be at the residence.

Steiger and Tate were arrested and booked at Calaveras County Jail, the Sheriff's Office said. Steiger was charged with felony burglary, felony vandalism, felony conspiracy to commit crime, misdemeanor possessing a controlled substance, and misdemeanor possessing drug paraphernalia. Tate was charged with the same three felonies as Steiger.

The previous incident occurred about 1:35 a.m. May 15 when a person reported a woman trying to break into their residence in the 3000 block of Burson Road. Deputies responded and found Tammy Marie Youtsey, 34, of San Andreas, on the ground with her hands bound behind her back with an extension cord.

The homeowner told deputies the sound of breaking glass woke him or her. The homeowner got up and saw Youtsey allegedly trying to crawl through a damaged window, the Sheriff's Office said. The homeowner yelled at Youtsey to leave, Youtsey came inside the home, and the homeowner grabbed Youtsey and pulled her to the nearest door. Youtsey kept resisting, the homeowner moved her outside on the front porch, and the homeowner locked the door.

Youtsey allegedly walked to the back of the house and kicked in the rear door. The homeowner again was able to subdue Youtsey and remove her from the house, and used the extension cord to hold Youtsey until deputies arrived. Youtsey was arrested and booked at the county jail on suspicion of felony burglary and felony vandalism.

Bail for Steiger and Youtsey was initially set at $45,000 each. No bail for Tate was provided by the Sheriff's Office. Investigations of both burglaries were continuing, the Sheriff's Office said on Wednesday.
