Harley Hallett

1956 — 2022

Yes, it’s true, Harley has moved on playing in a new band with Shery.

Looking down and watching all his students play their instruments. He’s smiling with his great big smile.

A very wise man once told me that we get the “dash.” There’s a start date and an end date. The dash in between represents our time on earth.

Harley’s journey was very diverse; Florida to the Bay Area to Sonora, for him it was always about the music, either playing it or teaching, they both made him smile.

Although his mind ran at an engineer’s pace, he was most accepting and humble. His uber intelligence never got in his way. He was comfortable in his own skin and with all of us.

I know Harley would like to thank our dear friend Jesse Longeway for his friendship and support. To Harley’s friend C.W. for his incredible commitment … Priceless! And to Jennifer, you really saved the day. Because of your “action” Harley was really able to be at peace. With great respect, thank you all.

I hope that one day Harley’s genes explode into greatness. I think his grandsons certainly have that potential.

It was amazing to see how strong he felt about all “his” students past and present. Harley really loved you all, “his” extended family. He was so grateful that he was able to teach almost to the final curtain.

It was my honor to travel the last part of Harley’s journey by his side.

I know in my heart that they are together, and Harley and Shery are off to another show somewhere. Together again.

Rest well my brother, MK

So: For all his bandmates and friends coast to coast, for all who knew and loved our friend Harley, especially his students who now can play and enjoy music their whole life (the gift that keeps on giving) — We all know what Harley would have to say about all this, with his great big smile: PRACTICE.
