Grant Gulseth
1936 — 2023
Longtime Sonora resident Grant Gulseth passed away at home on Feb. 14, 2023. He was 86 years old.
Grant was born Nov. 15, 1936, to Bess and Howard Gulseth in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. He graduated high school in 1954 and from North Dakota State with a degree in civil engineering in 1958. He married Beverly Mumm in 1961 after graduating from Office Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. He then spent his military time at the Naval Station in Port Chicago, California. In late 1963, he began his 32 years of service with the U.S. Forest Service. His final duty station was in Sonora, which he often noted “was the best place ever to live.” His love of the mountains was obvious to all he knew. He retired in 1994.
Grant is survived by his wife of 62 years, Beverly; sons Gary (Martina) and Tod (Kathy); daughter, Vicki (Matthew); seven grandchildren, Alex (Sabrina), Gregory, David, Allison, Jake, Roth and Danielle; sister, Gayle; and his nephew, Mark.
Grant was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Bess Gulseth.
A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 18, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 13880 Joshua Way, Sonora, CA 95370.
