Lions Club plans Cioppino Dinner Garden Club to hold Tablescape Show and Luncheon

The Sonora Lions Club will present its annual Harvey “Dusty” Rhodes Cioppino Dinner fundraiser on Friday, March 31, at the Sonora Elk Lodge.

The meal costs $50 per person and will include cioppino made from Rhodes’ own recipe, a hub of crab, salad, French bread and dessert. Tickets can be purchased at Sierra Bridal and Balloons, 13767 Mono Way, Sonora, or call (209) 406-5015 or (510) 910-4718. Credit card sales will be taken at the door.

The event will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the lodge, 100 Elk Drive, Sonora.

The workshop will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at the University of California Cooperativ­e Extension conference room, 52 N. Washington St., in Sonora.

Cost for the workshop is $10 for adults and children 12 and older, and $5 for younger children. Space is limited, so pre-purchase of tickets is required by cash or check only. Tickets can be purchased at the UCCE Sonora office between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. (closed noon to 1 p.m. for lunch) weekdays.

People who don’t want to attend but would like some champion seeds can purchase them at the Farms of Tuolumne County booth at Indigeny Reserve’s Spring Festival on April 15, at Nature’s Whole Food Depot in Standard, or at the Columbia Mercantile 1855.

The Master Gardeners of Tuolumne County will hold its annual Plant Sale Saturday, May 6, at the Demonstrat­ion Garden, 251 S. Barretta St., in Sonora.

The sale will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon and will offer a variety of vegetables, including several varieties of tomatoes, peppers, onions, eggplant as well as rosemary, figs and a number of other surprises.

The money raised will support Master Gardener activities throughout the year, including Open Garden days, school garden activities and educationa­l programs.

Plants are sold on a donation basis — there is no set price. Cash and checks are accepted, but not credit or debit cards. Attendees also are encouraged to bring a tray or box to transport plants.

The Calaveras County Garden Club will hold its eighth annual Tablescape Show and Scholarshi­p Luncheon on Wednesday, May 10, at Ironstone Vineyards in Murphys.

More than 20 hostesses will display themed, decorated table settings, and a public viewing will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Music Room and Culinary Center, followed by a three-course plated lunch.

Tickets cost $52 per person cash or check, or $53.50 if using a credit or debit card. Tickets must be purchased by April 22 by calling (209) 890-9277 or emailing calaverasc­ountygarde­nclub@gmail.com.

The event is the club’s biggest fundraiser of the year and helps provide scholarshi­ps to graduating seniors at Calaveras County high schools.

Senior fitness classes offered in Sonora

The Tuolumne County Recreation Department in partnershi­p with Altitude Performanc­e offers Senior Fitness Classes every Friday at the Tuolumne County Senior Center.

One-hour classes begin at 10:30 a.m., and six-week sessions are offered April 21 through May 26. Classes are for people 60 and older.

The department will offer Yoga Classes for Seniors at 10 a.m. Tuesdays, also at the Senior Center. Class sessions are offered May 9 through June 22.

Cost is $50 for the sixweek sessions for either class. Registrati­on can be done online at www.tcrecreati­on.com, or by visiting the Tuolumne County Recreation Department at 480 Greenley Road, Sonora, in the Tuolumne County Library building. Registrati­on is first-come, first served.
