POV: Motherland
Fabella Memorial Hospital in Manila is home to the world’s busiest maternity ward. In this memorably immersive documentary, filmmaker Ramona Diaz plunges viewers into the middle of the hot, crowded, chaotic main room, where young mothers lie two to each narrow bed and it’s not unusual for 100 babies to be born in a day. Diaz lets the mothers do the talking, and the stories they share are rich in the wonders and worries of procreation. Monday, Oct. 16, at 10 p.m., PBS; check local listings
