Las Vegas pool culture

-

Day clubs are big business in modern Las Vegas, and don’t worry if the term’s new to you, said Courtney Bond in The New York Times. “Vegas day clubs are pretty much exactly like Vegas nightclubs, except with sunshine and water and less clothing.” I recently hit the Strip with a friend, and we spent three days hopping from pool to overcrowded pool, clutching $25 piña coladas and gawking at all the attractive young people dancing, drinking, and flirting. The casinos’ pools have been over-the-top for decades, but only since about 2005 have floating craps tables given way, “for better or worse, to live sharks and stripper poles.” We started at Encore Beach Club, “40,000 square feet of capital-P Pool Party,” where we paid $60 each to wait in line 45 minutes and submit to having our bodies wanded just to secure 4 square feet of standing room. We fled just before a famous DJ arrived with 1,000 more partygoers.
