How to work from home all summer

-

■ Know your rights. If you’re being asked to return to the office and fear the Covid-19 health risks, don’t insist on working remotely and expect the law to back you. Unless you have a condition covered by the Americans With Disabilities Act, the law generally lets the employer decide what’s safe enough.

■ Coordinate with co-workers. “Coming to your boss and saying, ‘We have concerns,’ is a lot more powerful than saying, ‘I have concerns.’” Federal law also provides greater protection against retaliation for a group.

■ Ask nicely. If you only want your employer to create safer conditions at work, be gracious and have proposals ready, perhaps based on CDC guidance. If you prefer extending staying home, ask for a phone chat about your working arrangements. Prepare proof of your productivity, and be willing to set a date for revisiting the idea of returning. “Make it easy for your boss to say yes.” Source: Los Angeles Times
