The Week’s guide to what’s worth watching
Enola Holmes
Sherlock Holmes has nothing on his teenage sister. In this cleverly irreverent feature-length spin-off, Millie Bobby Brown of Stranger Things plays the spirited 16-year-old, who isn’t content being trapped at a finishing school when her mother has gone missing. Enola escapes to London to solve the mystery, which puts her in direct competition with her famous older brother. Helena Bonham Carter and Henry Cavill co-star. Available for streaming Wednesday, Sept. 23, Netflix
Star Trek: Discovery
Covid-19 is starting to turn the TV world upside down. Three years after its debut on CBS’s streaming service, the strong first season of this series will be filling a prime-time slot for the network, making up for a shortage of new content and giving more viewers a chance to watch the riveting Sonequa Martin-Green as a Starfleet ship’s first officer who mutinies against her captain. (The show’s third season will arrive on CBS All Access next month.) Thursday, Sept. 24, at 10 p.m., CBS
A Wilderness of Error
In an earlier era when true crime was all the rage, America couldn’t get enough of the story of Jeffrey MacDonald. This five-part series from Marc Smerling, director of The Jinx, uses a
2012 book by documentarian Errol Morris to wade back in. Morris refused to accept that MacDonald, an Army surgeon, should have been convicted for the 1970 murders of his pregnant wife and two children. MacDonald claimed the family had been attacked at home by hippies inspired by the Manson Family to carry out a copycat slaughter. Friday, Sept. 25, at 8 p.m., FX
The Comey Rule
When President Donald Trump and FBI Director James Comey clashed in 2017, Comey lost badly. But Comey shared his version of events in a bestseller, and two great actors have now stepped into the principals’ shoes to convey the madness of a moment when the leader of the investigation into Russian interference in a U.S. presidential election was dismissed by the candidate who had benefited from Russia’s efforts. With Jeff Daniels as Comey, Brendan Gleeson as Trump, and Holly Hunter as acting Attorney General Sally Yates. Sunday, Sept. 27, at 9 p.m., Showtime
Utopia
Fans of a comic book named Utopia band together to save the world when they realize that their favorite pulp series predicted the pandemic suddenly engulfing the planet. Years in development and based on an earlier U.K. series, this project was brought to fruition by Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn, who calls it a cross between a 1970s conspiracy thriller and Goonies. Rainn Wilson and John Cusack lead the cast. Available for streaming Friday, Sept. 25, Amazon Prime

Kim Cattrall shines as a Southern TV minister who tries to maintain her empire after her philandering husband dies in a plane crash. Monday, Sept. 21, at 9 p.m., Fox
