It must be true...

I read it in the tabloids

■ An angry beefalo—half steer, half buffalo—made a mad dash for life while being led to his slaughter in late August and has been hiding out in the woods around a Connecticut town ever since. Nicknamed “Buddy” by the Plymouth residents who have rallied around his cause, the 900-pound male has so far managed to evade capture, after several indecisive skirmishes with the police. Katie Adkins, owner of Plymouth Meats, said she isn’t surprised by Buddy’s free spirit, explaining, “I mean, it’s half buffalo.”

■ A Minnesota man says he’s trying “to stay humble” after setting the world record for the tallest mohawk, at nearly 43 inches. Joseph Grisamore began growing his hair into the off-beat style in 2007, and today, he requires only a good, solid teasing from his stylist to make his do stand up straight. Doorways are a problem, he concedes, and “cars are impossible to get into.” But people’s reactions, he says, make it all worth it. “The crowd,” he says, “usually comes to me.”

■ A mistaken UFO sighting brought traffic on a New Jersey highway to a nearstandstill as shocked motorists pulled over and began filming. The video, which briefly sparked a viral sensation, shows a man filming what appears to be a circular object hovering in the distance with a blinking light. “Look, the whole street has stopped!” the man shouts. “It’s a f---ing flying spaceship!” Hours later, a myth buster with a high-definition camera shattered the illusion and revealed the flying object for what it actually was: the Goodyear blimp.
