It must be true... I read it in the tabloids

■ A Missouri man has filed a $5 million class-action lawsuit against Bass Pro for failing to honor its lifetime warranty on socks. Kent Slaughter said that in past years he’d exchanged about a dozen pairs of his “Lifetime Guarantee All-Purpose Wool Socks” after they wore out. But when he tried to exchange four more pairs of the $11.99 socks last year, the outdoor outfitter indicated it had changed its policy, and replaced them with ones carrying only a 60-day warranty. “This lawsuit is about one simple principle: a corporation’s obligation to tell consumers the truth,” said his lawyers.

■ A pair of Japanese companies plan to market vertical “nap boxes” for overworked office staff who want to grab a few winks while standing upright. The pods support the head, knees, and back and are designed to offer respite for workers enduring Japan’s famously long workdays. Many “will lock themselves up in the bathroom for a while [to rest], which I don’t think is healthy,” said a spokeswoman for the box maker, furniture company Itoki. “It’s better to sleep in a comfortable location.”

■ A personal trainer from Indiana says running on all fours like a dog has made him “crazy ripped.” Nathaniel Nolan has been running at least 30 minutes a day on all fours, a practice he started when other highintensity workouts caused joint pain. Viral videos of his workouts have drawn many a snarky comment, but Nolan is unfazed. “If you live your life based on how people think something looks,” he said, “then you’re going to be cornering yourself into a really small box.”
