South to Black Power

Charles Blow has a radical thought: What if Black Americans did the Great Migration in reverse? In a 2021 book, the New York Times columnist argued that Blacks in northern states should return en masse to the South and create state majorities that would “upend America’s political calculus.” This cogent documentar­y follows Blow as he travels the country making his case and speaking with politician­s, historians, community activists, and family members. This series-length spin-off of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist tracks down pickpocket Jack Dawkins in 1850s Australia, where the former prince of thieves is now a surgeon. A respectabl­e life and a shot at love seem within reach, but the old thieving ways are hard to break, especially once an old friend, Fagin, arrives in the colony. Slow Horses

The misfit British spies of Slough House are back. In Season 3 of this darkly comic espionage series, the brilliant Gary Oldman returns as Jackson Lamb, the misanthrop­ic leader of a bureaucrat­ic purgatory where MI5 spies are sent to push papers and keep out of trouble after they screw up. They’re pulled from their torpor when Lamb’s assistant is abducted, and the trail leads to a cabal of rogue MI5 agents. Wednesday, Nov. 29, Apple TV+

Chuck Lorre is getting into sports betting. The prolific TV creator’s latest effort features comedian Sebastian Maniscalco as Danny, a small-time Los Angeles bookie trying to outrun the impending arrival of legalized gambling in California. Charlie Sheen, whose feud with Lorre ended his stint on Two and a Half Men, makes a guest appearance, but it’s Omar J. Dorsey who steals this new series as Omar, a former NFL player who’s been enlisted as Danny’s enforcer. Thursday, Nov. 30, Max

The Golden Bachelor

Who could have predicted that 2023’s most eligible man would be an endearingl­y earnest 72-year-old widower from Indiana? The affable love-seeker Gerry Turner and a group of delightful older women have given the formerly tedious Bachelor franchise a surprising jolt of life in this septuagena­rian remix. Having narrowed the field to two, the reluctant heartbreak­er will announce his final choice in a two-hour finale. Thursday, Nov. 30, at 8 p.m., ABC
