It must be true...

I read it in the tabloids

■ Three kids, ages 11, 12, and 16, have been accused of robbing a Houston bank while on spring break from school. The trio walked off with an undisclosed amount of cash after entering a Wells Fargo branch and handing a teller a threatening note. The FBI sent out photos of them from security cameras, and asked, “Recognize these ‘Little Rascals?’” The parents of two of the boys turned them in after seeing the images.

■ To comply with a new state law, the police department in Murrieta, Calif., began posting arrest and lineup photos with suspects’ faces replaced by Lego heads. Under a law that took effect in January, police are forbidden from releasing photos showing the faces of arrestees suspected of nonviolent crimes. Shots subsequently released by the department show them with superimposed Lego heads expressing anger, surprise, sadness, and other emotions. The practice has now drawn the notice of Lego’s manufacturer, which asked them to stop, and the police said they would comply.

■ A Republican congressional candidate in Ohio accidentally sent out an election day email conceding the race hours before the polls closed. “Tonight did not go as we hoped,” began the email from primary candidate Derek Myers, sent out at 3:19 p.m., more than four hours before the 7:30 poll-closing time. Minutes later, recipients got a second email with the frantic subject line “DISREGARD CONCESSION EMAIL.” Myers later said his campaign had prepared both a victory email and a concession. He eventually conceded for real, after coming in last in the 11-person contest.
