Proceedings suspended in Doll’s criminal case

- TRACY M. NEAL

Court proceedings were suspended for a Missouri man accused of shooting at his former wife in her Bella Vista home.

Michael Doll, 50, of Jasper, Mo., is charged with attempted capital murder, aggravated residential burglary and first-degree battery.

Doll is free on $500,000 bond. He appeared in court July 23 for his arraignment.

Shane Wilkinson, Doll’s attorney, requested a mental evaluation for Doll. Wilkinson wants the evaluation to consider wheth- er Doll is fit to stand trial.

Benton County Circuit Judge Robin Green granted the request and suspended proceedings pending a mental evaluation at the State Hospital in Little Rock. A mental status hearing is scheduled for 8 a.m. Nov. 7.

Bella Vista police received a 911 call from 39 Applecross Lane at 12:35 p.m. June 7, according to court documents.

A woman reported her ex-husband was trying to break into her home, said Police Chief Ken Farmer.

Gunfire was heard on the phone and the caller said a man had shot her, Farmer said.

Farmer said there was an exchange of gunfire, but he didn’t know how many shots the man and the woman fired.

The woman was grazed in the side by a bullet and was treated at the scene, Farmer said.

Doll’s release status also was discussed at Monday’s hearing.

Wilkinson said Doll’s whereabouts are tracked by a GPS monitor.

“Anyone with concern can watch where he’s going live,” Wilkinson said.

Wilkinson said Doll will come to Arkansas only to see him, to attend court hearings or to go the Veterans Administration in Fayetteville.

Green told Doll there’s a no-contact order preventing him from having any contact with his former wife. Green also ordered Doll to stay away from Applecross Lane.

Green ordered Doll to tell Bella Vista police and his bonding company whenever he travels to Arkansas to see Wilkinson, has a court hearing or goes to the Veterans Administration.

“Do you have any firearms?” Green asked.

“No ma’am,” Doll replied.

Green then ordered Doll not to possess any firearms.
