Kathryn Lucile Leigh
Kathryn Lucile Leigh, “Lucile” or “Lucy” to all who knew her, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2016. She was born July 15, 1931, to Burton and Kathryn Shukers.
She graduated from Warrensburg (Mo.) High School in June 1949 as valedictorian of her class. She earned her bachelor’s degree with honors in accounting and business administration from the University of Colorado at Denver in May 1980. She married her high school sweetheart, Elbert Herman Leigh, in March 1951. She and Elbert enjoyed 64 years of marriage until his death in May 2015. She worked as executive secretary for the head of the Department of Pathology at Washington University Medical School in St. Louis, Mo., while Elbert attended medical school at the same institution. In 1962, they moved to Dubois, Wyo., where the two of them established the first primary care medical clinic in the town’s history.
She enjoyed playing the piano and clarinet and was a voracious reader. She served as Elbert’s primary caregiver during the last few years of his life as he battled Alzheimer’s.
She is survived by two sons, Steve, of Kansas City, Mo., and Jason, of Chicago; her daughter, Vicki, of Evergreen, Colo.; and eight grandchildren.
