The Weekly Vista

Appreciation Luncheon

-

At 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at Papa Mike’s restaurant in Bella Vista, an appreciation luncheon will be held for the former 26 volunteer directors on the Veterans Council of Northwest Arkansas. These are the veteran volunteers who served on the board of directors the last 15 years, who planned, raised funds and built the beautiful Veteran Wall of Honor Memorial.

Also to be honored are the many individuals and firms that did so much, including:

• American Legion Post

341 in Bella Vista, where the idea was born and promoted

• VFW Post 9063 of Bella

Vista, which also promoted and furnished the site upon which the memorial was constructed. (They are also furnishing the site for the future Veteran Park, which adjoins the present memorial.)

• Cooper Communities,

which was the original owner of the site and furnished all the concrete used for the building of the memorial

• Arvest banks, where our model of the proposed memorial was displayed and promoted

• The three area big bands

who provided the free music for the many fundraisers

• The Bella Vista POA, which provided the venue for the bands. Our model of the memorial was also on constant display at Riordan Hall and at the Country Club

• Steve Morrow of Allen’s

Food Market in Bella Vista, who spearheaded many fundraisers at his store

• The Weekly Vista newspaper, which gave many positive stories about the proposed memorial

• The 3,000 veterans and

friends who purchased the 5,000 granite honoree bricks displayed on 28 walls in the memorial — thus providing half the $700,000 funding

• All the individuals and

firms too numerous to list here who furnished the other half of the $700,000 needed to complete the memorial

• The present 11 Board

of Directors who volunteer and serve to maintain and preserve the memorial for future generations.

The Appreciation luncheon is sponsored by Thrivent Financial of Appleton, Wis., as a way to appreciate, educate and strengthen our community.

Thank You! Leonard Eisert Director, Veterans Council of Northwest Arkansas
