Kingsdale Squares celebrate 40th anniversary

-

The oldest square dancing club in Northwest Arkansas, the Kingsdale Squares, celebrated their 40th anniversary at Riordan Hall on Sept. 12.

Although there are no original members left, caller Johnny Eubanks, who has called for the club for 38 years, was there. Eubanks still calls for clubs in Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma, square dancer Bill Allen said.

Square dancing has changed in recent years, Allen said. Dress and attitudes are casual, he said. "We have to laugh at ourselves and not take the whole thing too seriously as that tends to discourage the fun part," he said. A new session of square dance lessons begins in January. Lessons are offered every other year.

The club meets at 7 p.m. on Mondays.
