Professional photographer speaks to Photography Club
The Bella Vista-Bentonville Photography Club met Sept. 20 at the Bentonville Library for the regular monthly meeting. Cory Krasko, a professional photographer in photojournalism from Fort Smith, provided the program on photographing people.
“The written word targets the intellect,” Krasko told us. “Photography targets or evokes the emotion.”
Some photography tips he gave were to capture the personality of person, to tell a story with photograph, and to capture facial expression. He noted that photography stops time. You don’t have to photograph a face to tell the story, and you don’t always have to have the person looking into the camera. When taking photos of people, Krasko said, focus on the eyes — “the window of the soul.”
When capturing sports shots, take good action shots (1/500-second shutter speed is good starting point for sports), catch the emotional impact and intensity of the moment, and don’t use flash for a sports event or on stage. Dial up the ISO if the photo is too dark. If the photo is too bright, increase the shutter speed. Photograph fans as well as action on the court or field.
The subject of the October digital contest is “People.” Email jpg images to Doug Keck at dkeck800@cox.net by Oct. 16.
The winners of the September Digital contest, “Landscape,” were Chris Nelson, first place; Doug Keck, second place; and Linda Hupp, third place.
The Fall competitions’ winning prints will be available for public viewing in November.
The next monthly meeting will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Bentonville Library. Anyone interested in photography is invited to attend.
