The celebratio­n of his life was held Thursday, Oct. 20, at First United Methodist Church in Bentonvill­e, Ark., followed by a commitment ceremony with military honors at Fayettevil­le National Cemetery.

Patsy Ann Van Nostrand

Patsy Ann Van Nostrand, 84, of Bella Vista, Ark., died unexpected­ly Wednesday, Oct.19, 2016. She was born Dec. 30, 1931, to Herman and Bernice Schultz of York, Neb.

She graduated in 1949 from York High School. She married Lowell Clark Van Nostrand on Jan. 30, 1950. The moved to Tucson, Ariz., shortly thereafter, enjoying their time spent in the Southwest. The couple moved to Atlantic, Iowa, to start their family and operate Van Nostrand Grain Company, eventually adopting three children between 1958 and 1963.

After she retired from American Airline Ticket Agency, she and Clark arrived in Fayettevil­le, Ark., and she became a librarian. After traveling around the country in their Winnebago, they found their way to Bella Vista where they built their dream home and she spent many hours outdoors, tending her love of nature.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Lowell Clark Van Nostrand.

She is survived by her daughter, Lee Bergman of Elkins, Ark.; two sons, Michael Van Nostrand of San Diego, Calif., and Thomas Van Nostrand of Winslow, Ark.; two grandchild­ren, Alex and Julienne Bergman; and a great-grandchild, Serena Bergman.

A memorial service will be held at the Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, 2016. There will be a family gathering following the service.

Ellen Arlene Schulz

Ellen Arlene Hill Schulz, 90, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016. She was born on May 13, 1926, to William and Esther Hill in Virginia, Minn.

She trained as a nurse at Northweste­rn Hospital in Minneapoli­s. In 1946, she was united in marriage with Lenny Schulz of Rochester, Minn., and they had three children.

In the early years of their marriage, she and Lenny owned and operated a 40-acre fruit farm, where hundreds of customers came to pick strawberri­es over the years. They also sold berries and apples to local stores.

She had a long career in nursing at two hospitals located in Rochester affiliated with the Mayo Clinic. She began her career at St. Mary’s Hospital. After her children were older, she returned to work as the head nurse in urology surgery at Methodist Hospital. She was involved with the kidney transplant program and in surgeries on many famous people, including Bob Hope. She continued her career at Springdale Memorial Hospital after moving to Arkansas in the early 1970s.

After retirement she and Lenny traveled extensivel­y throughout the United States, living for a time in both Arizona and Maui, Hawaii.

She is survived by her husband, Lenny; their children, Bruce and wife Virginia of North Palm Beach, Fla., Timothy and wife Kathy of Springdale, Ark.; and Gretchen Bussman and husband Lawrence of Cassville, Mo.; six grandchild­ren; and 13 great-grandchild­ren.

Jean Vail

Jean Vail, 92, of Bentonvill­e, Ark., died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016. She was born Feb. 26, 1924, to Imer and Lila Livingston in Fillmore, Ill. She married Charles E. Vail on July 15, 1945. She was a veterinari­an assistant to him in their family business. They moved to Arkansas in March 1991. She was a volunteer docent at the Peel House Museum in Bentonvill­e and spent 30 years working on the family genealogy. She belonged to Butterfiel­d Trails Questers No. 949, the Lovely Purchase Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and Sigma Sigma Sigma. She was also a member of United Lutheran Church of Bella Vista.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Allen Livingston.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years; her sons, Charles L. Vail and wife Betsy, and Mark Vail and wife Christy; three grandchild­ren; three great-grandchild­ren; and a sister, Lila Stephenson.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 28, at the United Lutheran Church, 100 Cooper Road, Bella Vista, AR 72715.

Richard ‘Dick’ Willis

Richard “Dick” Willis, 83, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonvill­e, Ark. He was born March 2, 1933, in Racine, Wis., to Raymond and Elsie Willis.

He served in the U.S. Army in Korea from January 1953 to December 1954.

After 27 years, he retired from AMC/Chrysler in Kenosha, Wis., as plant engineer.

He enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, cards, photograph­y (he was a past president of Bella Vista Photograph­y Club), and a big Green Bay Packer and Wisconsin Badger fan.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Willis; and sons, Jeffrey Willis and Randal Willis.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Karen Willis; a son, Scott Willis and wife Katie; two stepsons, Perry Kohlmann and wife Nette, and Ron Kohlmann and wife Amy; a brother, Robert Willis; a sister-in-law, Debra Wolf and husband Alan; a brother-in-law, Dean Creuziger and wife Dianne; and nine grandchild­ren.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, 2016, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Bella Vista.

Memorials may be made to cancer research, diabetes or Circle of Life Hospice.

David Lee Winslow

David Lee Winslow, 85, formerly of Bella Vista, Ark., died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, Ark. He was born Sept. 2, 1931, in Oregon, Mo., the son of Edna and Orvel Winslow.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He was an active member of First Christian Church of Bentonvill­e, Ark. He received his pilot’s license at 61 and was a major in the Civil Air Patrol. He assisted Helping Hands, delivered for Meals on Wheels and served on the board for the Office of Human Concern.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Winslow; and three sisters, Barbara Hall, Alberta Chuning and Betty Winslow.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane Winslow; children, Larry Winslow of Bella Vista, Linda Melancon and husband Kenny of Bentonvill­e, and Nancy Vining of Virginia; a sister, Beverly Quimby of Missouri; seven grandchild­ren; seven great-grandchild­ren.

Visitation was Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, at Epting Funeral Home in Bentonvill­e.

A celebratio­n of his life was held Tuesday, Oct. 18, at First Christian Church of Bentonvill­e.

The family had a private service at Bentonvill­e Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to Circle of Life Hospice.
