The 2017 golf tournament schedule starts with the Sweetheart Tournament on Feb. 14, Golf Operations Director Phillip Wright told the Golf Joint Advisory Committee. His schedule includes many popular tournaments, a few new tournaments and two golf events.

The 35 tournaments listed include only the ones that are managed by the POA, he said. Many other popular tournaments — such as the Cancer Challenge — are not included on his list. They are on his calendar, though, he assured the committee. He looked at anything that might become a conflict when he made up his list.

Two tournaments benefiting cancer research, both the Rally for the Cure and Arnie’s Army, are now under POA management, he said. The proceeds will still go to the same beneficiary.

The Bella Vista Cup is a series that moves around the various courses, Wright said after the meeting. At each course, a different format will be used, so each event is unique. It will end with a match play championship. The series is open to members only.

One new monthly series should result in a following of people who return each month, he said. The Men’s and Women’s Senior Open is a series that will move around the different courses on the first Saturday of each month. It will continue year-round.

The Couples Nine & Dine starts in August when the Country Club Restaurant is reopened. Couples will play nine holes in the afternoon, then have dinner. This year, the event is scheduled three times, but it may expand in the future.

The popular tournaments that are back include All in the Family, Camo Classic, Chairman’s Cup and the Veteran’s Day Tournament.
