Sondra S. Schofield
Sondra S. Clift Schofield, 76, of Bentonville, Ark., died at her home Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, from breast cancer, which she battled for 10 years. She was born Nov. 11, 1940, in Owosso, Mich., to Paul Selph Clift and Alice Marie Vance.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield, Mo., graduating cum laude in 1962. In 1986, she earned a master’s degree in Reading from Western Illinois University, where she taught for one year. Her elementary-school teaching career was broad and varied. She taught in St Louis, Mo.; Anchorage, Alaska; Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines; Neübrucke in Germany; Provo, Utah; and Macomb, Ill. She retired from teaching in 2003.
It was in Germany that she met her husband, Dale W. Schofield, a career Army officer. They were married Aug. 17, 1968, and enjoyed 48 years together, finally settling in Bentonville in 2009.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Dale; two sisters, Katherine Dasal of Franklin, Tenn., and Alice Irish and husband Ray of Wentzville, Mo.; four children, Alane Schultz and husband Peter of Centerville, Utah, Marshal Schofield and wife Lacey of Bentonville, Nancy Allen and husband James of Branson, Mo., and Don Benjamin and wife Jennifer of Southington, Conn.; and 10 grandchildren.
Visitation for family and friends was held Saturday, Feb.4, 2017, at the Centerton Second Ward LDS Chapel.
Funeral service followed. Bishop Jose Gonzalez officiated.
Interment was at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.
Memorials will be donated to the Northwest Arkansas Children’s Shelter.
