▲ Retired educator Tom Krohn will discuss past and present extinction­s in relation to the Ozark ecosystem in a program titled “The Sixth Mass Extinction” at 6 p.m. at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History. Krohn currently serves as regional coordinato­r for the citizen science program FrogWatch USA. According to Krohn, “There have been five mass extinction­s in the last 500 million years. Most biologists think we are in the midst of the sixth mass extinction that could wipe out over half of all existing plant and animal species by 2100.” The Shiloh Museum is located at 118 W. ▲ The Bella Vista Historical Museum will commemorat­e the 100th anniversar­y of the U.S. entering World War I in April 1917 at its annual meeting, open to the public, at 2 p.m. Retired history professor Brian Scott will speak on the impact in Arkansas of that event. The museum is located at the corner of U.S. 71 and Kingsland Road, next door to the American Legion. Admission is free.

Monday, March 20

▲ The Bella Vista Fraternal Order of Police is conducting it's annual fundraisin­g campaign. The FOP is bringing a team of Arkansas Razorback alumni to town to face the officers in a charity softball game at 6 p.m. at Loch Lomand field. Local businesses and residents are being contacted for sponsorshi­ps and ticket sales. The lodge is raising money for their annual “Shop with a Cop” program, Special Olympics and the many other worthwhile endeavors the officers sponsor throughout the year. ▲ The Election Committee of the Property Owners Associatio­n will host a candidate forum at 6 p.m. at Riordan Hall. The public is invited to attend.

Thursday, March 23

▲ Members of the Bella Vista Women's 18-Hole Golf League are invited to attend the annual rules workshop at Riordan Hall. There is no fee to attend. Doors open at 7:45 a.m. and the workshop begins at 8:30. Contact Jean Meadows at 479-381-0202 for reservatio­ns.

Friday, March 24

▲ The Knights of Columbus present their 25th annual Lenten Fish Fry at St. Bernard Catholic Church. The Social Hall opens at 5 p.m. and serving begins at 6. They will serve catfish, potato salad, coleslaw, hush puppies, dessert and drinks. The cost is $10 per person. Tickets are necessary and can be purchased at St. Bernard Catholic Church office, 1 Saint Bernard Lane, Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.3 p.m. or at the church's Social Hall from 10 to 10:45 a.m. on Sundays.
