Wood Carvers Club receives donation for its annual show
The Bella Vista Wood Carvers Club, a group that has been meeting at Riordan Hall for decades, got some help from the fiveyear-old Bella Vista Foundation. This year when the woodcarvers plan their annual Artistry in Wood Show they have a small budget thanks to the Foundation.
Foundation Vice President Charlie Teal was at a recent Wood Carvers meeting to present a check for $500.
The Foundation was started in 2012 to help groups like the Wood Carvers, Teal said. Most of their funds come from private donations.
“We provide the opportunity for residents to support community events and get some tax benefits,” he said. In the past the Foundation has donated funds to the Junior Golf Tournament, the Back 40 Trails, and Hay Days. The Wood Carvers show is the type of family-friendly event the foundation wants to support.
Not only will local woodcarvers display their craft, there will be several guest artists including a chainsaw artist who will be demonstrating, organizer Jean Visnich said. Some pieces will be up for sale, she said, depending on the artist.
There will also be soap carving for kids, door prizes and concessions. Admission is free.
The Wood Carvers meet at Riordan Hall every Thursday beginning at 1 p.m. The club has 45 members including wood turners and pyrographers who burn designs into wood. Visitors are always welcome.
