Clara Mary Brown

Clara Mary Brown, 98, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Friday, June 2, 2017, at her home in Bella Vista. She was born on June 13, 1918, in Jersey City, N.J.

She took early retirement from RCA Internatio­nal of Edison, N.J., as export manager before relocating to California with her daughter, husband, and family. There she worked for Hartwell Corp., in the same field, then retired once more but enjoyed keeping busy. She worked part-time at Sears in the accounting department.

Her hobbies included sewing and she was an avid reader. She faithfully read the local newspapers and completed the crossword puzzles each day. She doted on her great-greatgrand­son, Jaxson, who she said, kept her young. Her greatest wish was to be here for his second birthday. Unfortunat­ely, God had other plans and she passed just shy of her 99th birthday.

She moved to Bella Vista in 2009 to be closer to her daughter.

She is survived by two daughters, Anita Patterson of West Virginia and Patricia Wardell of Bella Vista; five grandchild­ren; six great-grandchild­ren; and one great-great grandchild.

Memorial Services will be held in Beverly, N.J., at the Beverly National Cemetery where she will be interred alongside her husband, William J. Brown, a World War II veteran.

Memorials may be made to Circle of Life Hospice.

Gary R. Hartwig

Gary R. Hartwig, 83, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Thursday, June 22, 2017. He was born March 9, 1934, in Buckeye, Iowa, to Herbert and Helen Hartwig.

H e served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He moved to Bella Vista in 1993 with his bride, Barbara.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Amy Hartwig; and a brother, Lee Hartwig.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Hartwig; a son, Michael (Debi) Hartwig; a stepdaught­er, Kristine Cross; a brother, Bud Hartwig; a sister, Dorothy Barhite; six grandchild­ren; and six great-grandchild­ren.

Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, at Bella Vista Lutheran Church, 1990 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Circle of Life Hospice, 1201 NE Legacy Parkway, Bentonvill­e, AR 72712.

John P. Middleton

John P. Middleton, 74, of Bella Vista died Thursday, June 22, 2017, with his wife of 25 years, Mary Read Middleton, at his side. He was born Nov. 7, 1942, in Chicago, Ill., to George Middleton and Beatrice Crowley Middleton.

He was known as “The Computer Guy.”

He was raised in California.

He was known for his big, caring heart and love of family and work to help right social injustices. He was also passionate about his role as chairman of the Family Selection Committee of Habitat for Humanity of Benton County, chairman of the Platypus Society and his involvemen­t with Single Parent Scholarshi­p Fund of Benton County. He supported numerous not-for-profit organizati­ons in his 17 years in Bella Vista and was a caring resource to those in need. He was a Mason and Shriner.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Middleton; a son, David Middleton of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Erin Coon of Fresno, Calif.; Mary’s children, Nancy Read of Oakland, Calif., Mark Hoeffer of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Paul Hoeffer of Mercer Island, Wash.; a brother, Joe Middleton, and a Nancy Washburn, both of California; and numerous relatives and family in California and elsewhere.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. July 21 at Highland Christian Church, 1500 Forest Hills Blvd., in Bella Vista. In lieu of flowers, do a random act of kindness for someone in his name.

Linda Williams

Linda Williams, 75, died Monday, June 19, 2017, at her home in Bella Vista, Ark. She was born Dec. 31, 1941, in Independen­ce, Iowa, to Eugene Melius and Geraldine Lessie Robertson Bates.

She grew up in Buchanan County and graduated from Winthrop High School in 1960. On Nov. 22, 1963, she married Channing Hall in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In June 1991 she married Craig Williams in Guttenberg, Iowa. They resided in Guttenberg and Phoenix before relocating to Bella Vista.

She was employed for many years at Kann Imports in Guttenberg and held various administra­tive positions during her working career. She was an accomplish­ed quilter and crafter and enjoyed gardening and propagatin­g hostas.

Her love of music led her to sing in church choirs and to play numerous musical instrument­s including piano, auto harp and harmonica.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Carol Murray and Micki Cline; and a brother, Jim Bates.

Survivors include a son, Douglas Channing (Tiffany) Hall of Shawnee, Kan.; a grandson, Darren; a granddaugh­ter, Katie; three sisters and their husbands, Lee (Lloyd) Stimson of Strongsvil­le, Ohio, Pamela (Ken) Clarke of Oceanside, Calif., and Debby (Roger) Fischer of Garnavillo, Iowa; and her cat, Fancy.

A service of remembranc­e will be held at a later date.
