Summer concluding; residents enjoy weather

With summer on its way out, Bella Vistans are out enjoying 2017’s shrinking supply of warm days.

Bella Vista residents Harold Hussman and Jacquelin Hussman went out for a walk on the Lake Avalon dam.

Harold Hussman said they were married 69 years and they’ve lived in Bella Vista close to 21 years, after moving down from Minneapolis. He’s a World War II veteran, he said. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1946.

“We try to do this every day,” he said.

It’s been a good summer, he said. While the summer can get too hot at times, he said, the weather is rarely bad enough to keep them cooped up.

Charlotte, N.C., resident Phil Cook said that he was in Bella Vista to visit his girlfriend and having a great time in the area. He was fishing on Lake Avalon and had also gone kayaking on Lake Brittany and mountain biking in the area.

The water is still somewhat warm and the trails are excellent, he said.

“This place… it’s pretty special as far as outdoors go,” he said. “I got canoeing and kayaking and good weather. Don’t tell anyone about this.”

He’s beginning to consider living in the area, he said.

“The only thing this place is missing is my family and a beach,” Cook said.

Bella Vista residents Belinda Wood and Bob Wood were out on Lake Windsor, taking in the sun and trying to hook bass, respectively.

“It was wonderful out there,” Belinda Wood said.

They live near the lake, she said, and they’re retired, making it very accessible.

The weather, she said, was fantastic, even if it was a little bit windy, and they more or less had the lake to themselves.

There weren’t a lot of bites, Bob Wood said, but it was still a good — though tiring — time.

“Time for a nap, though,” he said — once the boat was secured to its trailer.
