Shirley Elaine Longshore Emling

Shirley Elaine Longshore Emling, 84, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017. She was born Nov. 14, 1932, in Du Quoin, Ill., to Howard and Blanche Longshore.

She moved from Du Quoin, Ill., to Bella Vista in 1988.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Dale Henry Emling; four children, Debra Kennedy, Brian Emling, Jeffrey Emling and Elizabeth Scofield; and two grandchild­ren, Ian and Chloe.

Memorial services were held Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, at the Bella Vista Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bella Vista Lutheran Church, 1990 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, AR 72715. Arrangemen­ts are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory.

Kenneth Fluckey Sr.

Kenneth D. Fluckey Sr., 87, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, at home. He was born Aug. 1, 1930, in Union County, Iowa, to Harley and Floy Adams Fluckey.

He and his wife moved to Bella Vista in 1988 from Creston, Iowa.

He was a farmer, master carpenter and enjoyed working with wood and making furniture. He was a Southwest Iowa zone champion and Olympic-candidate trapshoote­r. He worked as a parts and service manager for Case Equipment.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lyle (Esther) Fluckey; and a sister, Ilene (Jim) Hohneke.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Fluckey; a son, Kenneth “Dean” Fluckey Jr.; two daughters, Connie (Alan) Gardner and Janette (Jerry) Harper; six grandchild­ren; and seven great-grandchild­ren.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in Iowa.

William Norman ‘Norm’ Howells Jr.

William Norman “Norm” Howells Jr., 85, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Sept. 26, 2017. He was born July 31, 1932, in Granite City, Ill,. to William Norman Howells Sr. and Josephine Bilello Howells.

H e served in the U.S. Navy. He owned Frontier Constructi­on, which built roller coasters all over the country. The most famous was the Screaming Eagle in St. Louis. He was a member of the Carpenters of St. Louis. He served as Honorary Trustee of Morton House in Trenton, N.J.

He moved to Bella Vista from Toms River, N.J., and was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Men’s Golf Associatio­n. He previously served on the Board of Directors for Open Avenues.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Howells.

He is survived by a daughter, Susan Marie Howells of Bentonvill­e, Ark.

Visitation and Rosary was held before the Funeral Mass on Oct. 2, 2017, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 1 St. Bernard Lane, Bella Vista. Father Barnabas Maria-Susai officiated.

Leonard Peter Rospond

Leonard Peter Rospond, 87, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017. He was born Jan. 18, 1930, in Chicago, Ill., to Frank Rospond and Mae Marek.

He married Donna Mae Neises on June 23, 1956.

He served as a medical detachment sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, during the Korean War. He received a bachelor of science degree in business administra­tion with an accounting major from Roosevelt University in Chicago in 1960. He became a certified public accountant in 1965. He worked as an auditor for George Bagley and Company for four years before joining Sears Roebuck and Company, where he worked in various positions for more than 20 years. Upon retiring, he enjoyed traveling and golf.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Teresa.

He is survived by his wife of more than 61 years, Donna Mae Rospond; three sons, Steven Francis Rospond, Scott Leonard (Raylene) Rospond and David Francis (Shannon) Rospond; 10 grandchild­ren; a great-grandchild, Rowan Daniel Jones; a sister, Phyllis (Richard) Markiewicz; a brother, Thomas (Virginia) Rospond; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation and Rosary was held before the Mass of the Resurrecti­on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017, at St. Bernard Catholic Church. Inurnment followed in the Columbariu­m at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonvill­e, Ark., or the Myositis Associatio­n.

Jewel Joan Whelan

Jewel Joan Whelan, 88, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at home. She was born May 26, 1929, in Elmwood Park, Ill., to Buddy and Gloria Wood.

She moved to Bella Vista in 1982 from Ventura, Calif. She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and St. Bernard Women’s Club. She was also a charter member of the Embroidery Club. She was a volunteer worker for St. Mary’s Hospital from 1985-2005, Village House, Channel 16 and the Bella Vista Library.

She is survived by two daughters, Roanne Elaine Komarek of Bentonvill­e, Ark., and Donna Denise Walburn and husband, Frank of Gravette, Ark.; a brother, Frank Coty of Florida.; three sisters, Rosemary Miller of Nevada, Geraldine Cochran of Florida and Carol Ann Grapenthie­n of Illinois; six grandchild­ren; and two great-grandchild­ren.

Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. and Mass of the Resurrecti­on will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 1 St. Bernard Lane, Bella Vista.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be made to the Bella Vista Library, 11 Dickens Place, Bella Vista, AR 72714.
