Regenia Mae Bates

Regenia Mae Bates, 63, of Bentonvill­e, Ark., died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, at her residence surrounded by her family.

She was born April 19, 1954, in Fort Sill, Okla., to Bill Dail and Dorothea Parks Dail.

She married David Lee Bates on Oct. 2, 1971. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and fur babies. She enjoyed baking, cooking, fishing, sewing and scrapbooki­ng.

She was preceded in death by her father.

She is survived by her husband, David Bates; her mother, Dorothea Dail of Rogers, Ark.; two sons, Matthew Bates and his wife Meshell Bates, and Marcus Bates and his wife Amy, all of Bentonvill­e; a brother, Billy Dail and his wife Misty of Bella Vista, Ark.; two sisters, April Warner and her husband Wayne of Rogers, Kim Fletcher and her husband Jay of Garfield, Ark.; and nine grandchild­ren.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, at House of God Church in Rogers with Lisa Schroder officiatin­g. Burial followed at the Centerton Cemetery in Centerton, Ark.. Pallbearer­s were Billy Dail, Matthew Bates, Mark Bates, Braeden Bates, Bryce Bates, and Dereck Brandon.

John W. Hendricks

John W. Hendricks, 90, of Cumberland, Wis., and formerly of Bella Vista, Ark., died Aug. 9, 2017, after a brief illness.

He was born at home in Buffalo, Minn., on Feb. 9, 1927, to William and Louise Hendricks.

In 1995, he and wife Gay moved to Bella Vista where they resided until October 2016. At that time they returned home to Cumberland.

After high school he joined the U.S. Coast Guard as a Cadet-Midshipman from 1945-1947. He graduated from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minn., in 1950 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematic­s education and minors in physical education and social studies. He later earned a master’s degree in guidance and counseling from Mankato State University. He taught high school mathematic­s and coached in Annandale, Minn., from 1950-1953 and in Glencoe, Minn., from 1953-1968. The family moved to Granite Falls, Minn., where he was director of Student Personnel Services at the Area Vocational Technical School from 1968-1985. For the next 10 years, he was a post-secondary financial aid consultant in the Twin Cities area. He was also active with the City of White Bear Lake, Minn., numerous community and church activities.

Throughout his adult life, he enjoyed being a part of the Masonic Lodge in Annandale and Glencoe, the Garnett Lodge in White Bear Lake, Minn., and the Nomad Shrine Club in Bella Vista. While living in Bella Vista, he was active with the Sugar Creek Model Railroad Club and the National Historic Railway Society. He served for several years on the Election Committee with the POA in Bella Vista.

He and Gay loved their 21 years in Bella Vista, plus spending winters in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and each summer returning to their lake cabin near Cumberland. They traveled extensivel­y, including numerous riverboat cruises in Europe, trips to Australia, New Zealand and many other favorites in the United States. He was a voracious reader and enjoyed the company of friends and family, where they all joined in working jigsaw puzzles and domino games. No matter where he lived, he always had a building or woodworkin­g project in process.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Gay Hendricks; three daughters, Deborah Hendricks, Rebecca Hendricks Key and husband Ted, and Cynthia Hendricks; a son, Bradley Hendricks and wife Marilyn; two stepchildr­en, Todd Rauch and wife Debbie, and Laura Flaherty and husband Andrew; three granddaugh­ters; and five stepgrandc­hildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2017, at the Bella Vista Community Church.

Shirley M. Kossoris

Shirley M. Kossoris, 88, of Tomahawk, Wis., died Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, under the care of AseraCare Hospice.

She was born April 19, 1929, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Paul and Florence Wells Kablitz.

She was raised in Milwaukee where she graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran High School.

She was married to Raymond Kossoris on Sept. 18, 1948. She and Raymond moved to Arkansas in 1990. In 2016, they made Tomahawk their home. She was a dedicated homemaker, who enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing and going to the casino. Later in her life, she developed a passion for playing Mahjong. She and Raymond were inseparabl­e, devoted to each other and enjoyed a 69-year journey together.

She was preceded in death by a son, Tom; and a brother, Erv.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond; two sons, Daniel (Sue) Kossoris, and Michael (Barb) Kossoris; a brother, Paul Kablitz; a sister, Orpha (Bob) Zeitelhack; a daughter-in-Law, Carol Kossoris; seven grandchild­ren; and nine great-grandchild­ren.

In accordance with her wishes, no formal services will be held.

Kenneth ‘Ken’ Earl Moore

Kenneth “Ken” Earl Moore, 76, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017, after a 3-year battle from ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) and stage 4 cancer.

He was born Feb. 12, 1941, in Dallas, Texas, to Rodney and Mary Moore.

He served in the army during the Vietnam War. He functioned as a legal assistant in the martial court in Nuremberg, Germany, while serving in the Army. He enjoyed many adventurou­s travels in Europe.

Upon returning to the United States, he worked as a supervisor at the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Co. Upon retirement, he moved to Bella Vista to be near his family and to fish the beautiful lakes. He was an avid fisherman and great nature lover. He was a kind, quiet, brave, complex, happy and generous man.

Two weeks before his death he experience­d a stunning religious conversion and was baptized by the Rev. Stan Jones of Bella Vista Lutheran Church. He died quietly with his sister at his side at Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonvill­e, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his sister, Betty Bennett and brother-in-law, Bill Bennett of Bella Vista; a brother, Hansel Moore of Austin, Texas; and two nephews, Paul Bennett of Bella Vista and Mark Bennett of Arlington, Texas.

By his request, no services are planned.

Memorials may be made to the ALS Associatio­n or to Bella Vista Lutheran Church.

Harrell Pell

Harrell Pell, 75, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017.

He was born Jan. 26, 1942, to Willie and Myrtle Pell.

He served in the U.S. Air Force for more than 20 years.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Bennie Pell.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Pell; a daughter, Sarah Philpot and husband, Kevin of Siloam Springs, Ark.; two brothers, Jarrell Pell and wife, Judy, of Inola, Okla., and William Pell of Pittsfield, Ill.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, at the Fayettevil­le National Cemetery.

James Dennis Shields

James Dennis Shields, 69, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, at home.

He was born Nov. 8, 1947, to Dennis and Betty Shields in Brooklyn, N.Y.

He attended Kansas Wesleyan College in Salina, Kan. He was a paint specialist for AWC and Sherwin-Williams in Springdale, Ark. He enjoyed music, the ocean and discussing history. His nieces and nephews loved to sit and listen to his stories and discuss history with him.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Brenda Shields; three sisters-in-law, Connie (Don) Gempler, Sonja O’Brien, Vickie (Sam) Beasley; three nieces, Kim Conway, Kristy Lemmon and Willow Stiles; three nephews, Sean, Tim O’Brien and Stone Stiles; nine grandniece­s and grandnephe­ws; and a cousin, Betty Carney.

Barbara Kay Thorson

Barbara Kay (Fliegel) Thorson, 70, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Sept. 21, 2017, after a short battle with ovarian cancer.

She was born Jan. 30, 1947, in Faribault, Minn., to Joseph Anthony and Dorothy Rosette Fliegel. She married Brian Miller in 1969. She married Erling Richard “Dick” Thorson of Faribault, Minn., in 1984.

She was a daycare provider for many Faribault area families and an extraordin­ary seamstress with a life-long passion for quilting. In 2006, she and her husband retired to Bella Vista.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Richard.

She is survived by a son, David Miller of Sauk Rapids, Minn; five stepchildr­en, the Rev. Jay (Beth) Thorson of Milwaukee, Tamara (Kim) Bredeson of Alexandria, Scot(Jill)Thorson of Columbia Heights, Michelle (Patrick Turner) Rieb of Ojai, Calif., and Renee Thorson of Albert Lea; 15 grandchild­ren; three great-grandchild­ren; two brothers, Roger Fliegel (Hazel) Dundas and Thomas Fliegel (Patricia) of Hampton; and a sister, Mary Jean (Pault) Malecha of Faribault.

Family visitation is at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at Boldt Funeral Home in Faribault.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at Boldt Funeral Home in Faribault.

Interment will be at Meadow Ridge Cemetery in Faribault.
