Phyllis Marion Bergstrom, 92, died Oct. 25, 2017, at her home in Bella Vista, Ark. She was born Feb. 9, 1925, in Middleton, Mich., to Dr. Carlisle M. Denney and Pearl Vallance Denney.

She was educated at Clearly College and Central Michigan University in Michigan.

She married Jack A. Bergstrom in 1948 and lived in Midland, Mich., for 30 years, where her husband establishe­d his optometry practice. In Midland, she was a homemaker, as well as an active volunteer at Trinity Lutheran Church, where she played piano and organ and taught Sunday School. She was involved in the local optometry auxiliary and the county safety council and held state and national offices.

She and Jack lived at Sugar Springs, Mich., for 10 years, where she became active in the Sugar Springs POA, music, and held the office of Township Trustee.

She moved to Bella Vista in 1989 and became an active member of United Lutheran Church, where she was an accompanis­t for the adult choirs and Bel Canto for 22 years. She also played for many other programs in the area. She held offices in Welcome Wagon, the Bella Vista Pre-School Board, 9-hole Ladies Golf and was a member of several groups.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Dr. Jack Bergstrom; her youngest son, Tom Carlisle Bergstrom; and brothers, Robert and Gene.

Survivors include her son, Chris (Fran) Bergstrom of St. Johns, Mich.; daughter, Sue (Charlie) Griffin of Thayne, Wyo.; five grandchild­ren; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service was held Monday, Oct. 30, 2017, at United Lutheran Church, with inurnment of ashes at United Lutheran Church Columbariu­m.

Memorials may be made to United Lutheran Church music department or a favorite charity.
