Cherokee Civil War

Prairie Grove National Battlefield will be at the library at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 13, for a presentation on the Cherokee Civil War. This program looks at the Trail of Tears era through the Civil War and how the tensions within the Cherokee Tribe led to an internal civil war that predated the American Civil War (and took place here in northwest Arkansas). The tribal tensions present in northwest Arkansas greatly determined which Cherokees fought for the Union and which fought for the Confederacy. The Trail of Tears passes directly through the Prairie Grove Battlefield.
