McKenzie announces bid to run for District No. 92 House seat

Gayla McKenzie announced her bid for House District No. 92 which includes Gravette, Hiwasse, Maysville, Sulphur Springs, Decatur and the western side of Bella Vista.

Gayla is the daughter of State Rep. Kim Hendren, who currently represents House seat No. 92. She is also the sister of State Sen. Jim Hendren and the niece of Gov. Asa Hutchinson.

Gayla received a bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Arkansas in 1987 and received her law degree from the University of Arkansas Law School in December of 1989. After practicing law in Gravette for one year, she founded KBVA-FM in September of 1991. She spent the next 26 years programmin­g and managing KBVA Variety 106.5.

In July of this year, Gayla sold KBVA to another radio group and subsequent­ly purchased the former Petra Stone property in Gravette. In December of 2017, Gayla will open her new manufactur­ing stone business, Petra Stone Designs of Gravette.

Gayla and her husband Loyd have been married for 22 years. Loyd manages a poultry and cattle farm. The couple has two daughters, Elizabeth, 19, who is a freshman at Liberty University, and Maggie, 17, who is a junior at Gravette High School.

Gayla’s interests, if elected, include guardiansh­ips, foster children, education and property taxes. She enjoyed serving the listeners of Variety 106.5 and built many life-long relationsh­ips with those listeners. Gayla looks forward to the opportunit­y to work hard to serve constituen­ts if elected.
