Children’s programmin­g

There will be no children’s programmin­g during the month of August. All children’s programs will start back up in September.

Polish book review

George Kalin will lead a discussion on several books related to Polish history and the influence of Polish citizens on the course of world history. His selected books tell the story of Polish people involved in major historical events. This event takes place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1.

Retirement: making your money last

This program is designed to help you prepare to live the retirement you’ve envisioned — whether you’re thinking about retirement or have recently retired. You’ll learn factors to consider and tools you can use to help build a strategy designed to last throughout your retirement years. Join financial adviser Alex Huff with Edward Jones to learn more at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8.

Half-price paperback sale

Due to high inventory, the Encore Book Store is currently running a half-price sale on paperback books. Take 50 percent off of all paperback books (most already priced around 25-50 cents).

Adult speaker series

The monthly Adult Speaker Series continues with a representa­tive from the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge. Come by the library at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, to learn about the rescue work of the refuge, the animals they take care of, and the refuge itself.

Writing Journey Workshop

Begin your writing journey at this workshop. Starting on Tuesday, Aug. 14, this workshop will assist you in finding your style and begin writing the type of book that you’ve always wanted to write. The workshop will continue on each Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. through the end of August.

Belk back-to-school charity sale

Belk Department Store and the BVPL Foundation are hosting a fundraiser to raise money for the library expansion. Ticket sales at the library will go from Aug. 1-24 and the Belk Department Store sale will be from 6 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25. Their sale will feature discounts of 15 to 70 percent off purchases store-wide, with special savings on rarely-discounted brands. Best of all, you can buy a $5 ticket at the membership desk in the BV Library, and the $5 will be deducted from your first purchase at the Belk sale. Your $5 goes directly into the building fund to expand the Bella Vista Library.

Exhibits

August displays are provided by the Bella Vista Photograph­y Club and Jeffery McFarland. Anyone interested in displaying a collection should contact the library at 479-855-1753.

Floral arrangemen­t

The August floral arrangemen­t was designed and provided by the Bella Vista Garden Club. Each month, a member of the Bella Vista Garden Club creates an original floral design to be displayed for patron enjoyment.

Regular library hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with weekend hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The Bella Vista Public Library is located at 11 Dickens Place (Ark.
