Shaker weaving

Melissa Weaver Dunning of Berryville, Va., will present a program on the history and techniques of Shaker weaving at the monthly meeting of the Northwest Arkansas Handweavers Guild at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Shiloh Meeting Hall in downtown Springdale. Dunning is a traditional handweaver and spinner with 36 years of experience working on antique weaving equipment to produce 18th- and 19th-century style textiles.

50th anniversary celebrations

The Shiloh Museum of Ozark History will celebrate its 50th anniversary in September with two special events.

The “50th Anniversary Frolic” takes place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8. This adults-only evening will feature music by Rachel B/Table for 3, “Experience the Old-Time Ozarks” activity stations, local food trucks, adult beverages, cake and a signature ice cream created by Loblolly Creamery for the museum’s anniversary. The second event is for folks of all ages to attend the museum’s “50th Anniversary Family Celebration” from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22. Activities include a scavenger hunt, old-fashioned toys and games, life-size historic cut-outs for photographs, and cake and ice cream. The event is free; reservations are not required.

The Old Ozarks program

Brooks Blevins, professor of Ozark studies at Missouri State University, will discuss his latest book, A History of the Ozarks, Volume 1:

The Old Ozarks, at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History. In The Old Ozarks, the first of a trilogy, Blevins explores the region’s history from first human habitation up to the beginning of the Civil War. Copies of The Old Ozarks will be available for purchase for a cost of $34.95 plus tax.

Prehistoric Indian pottery

Ann Early, state archaeologist with the Arkansas Archeological Survey, will discuss the art and craft of prehistoric Indian pottery at noon Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History.

Storytellers

The Tellers of Tales storytelling group will meet at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History. All tellers and listeners are invited.

LifeWriters

LifeWriters, a group for people interested in writing the stories of their own lives or those of family and friends, will meet both days at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 3, and Monday, Sept. 17, at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History.

Wireless Society

The Ozark Wireless Society will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History.

Civil War Roundtable

The Northwest Arkansas Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History.
