Habitat for Humanity car, bike show slated for Sept. 1

- Staff Report

This year there’s a way to celebrate Labor Day, support a good cause and enjoy some family fun at the Best of the Best Car Show at Simple Pleasures on Saturday, Sept. 1. The event is a fundraiser for Benton County Habitat for Humanity, which helps low-income families own their homes. Admission and parking are free.

“The Habitat car and bike show is surrounded by natural trees and waterfalls rather than a hot shopping mall parking lot,” Ray Pearce, a Habitat board member said.

Two hundred cars and 75 bikes will be displayed on the 20-acre campus. It’s not the first car show at Simple Pleasures, owner Ken Miner said. He has an interest in cars and displays memorabilia from simpler times at the event center.

“Simple Pleasures is a history lesson for younger folks and reminds parents and grandparents of their youth,” Miner said. “In the digital age, parents and children appreciate the simplicity of Simple Pleasures.”

He has a 1930s teeter-totter, pedal merry-go-round and historic neon advertising on the grounds, as well as the Route 71 historic garden path with 1930s billboards.

The raffle prizes are also unique, Miner said. Prizes include an engine, wheels, tires and the grand prize, a four post car lift which gives car owners the ability to work on their vehicles in their own garage.

There are also games for both children and adults.

Food is available, including biscuits and gravy from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. and cheeseburgers and ice cream Sundaes for lunch.

Judging takes place between 1 and 3 p.m., and trophies are presented between 3:30 and 4 p.m.
